BMI formula & limitations
BMI = weight in kilograms ÷ height in meters squared. The calculator converts US units to metric before applying the formula. Standard adult BMI screening categories are under 18.5, 18.5–24.9, 25–29.9 and 30 or higher.
Example
BMI is a screening measure, not a diagnosis. It does not directly measure body fat and may be less informative for some people, including highly muscular individuals.
